Dunham Forest Golf & Country Club
Hello and welcome to this week's newsletter.
There really isn't anywhere else to start other than the terrific One Love Manchester concert on Sunday. We have many members that had family or friends who were attending both the tragic MEN arena Concert and latterly Sunday's show. I must admit that a little over 2 weeks ago I hadn't heard of Ariana Grande, whereas I don't suppose I'll ever forget this special 23-year-old now. Well done to everybody involved for putting the smile back into our great city.
This week Dunham lost its eldest Past Captain with the passing of Dr Sydney Smith, who was 96. I genuinely cannot remember seeing Sydney not smiling with his customary cheeky glint in his eyes. It's easy to see where his two sons Michael and Ian got their sense of humour from.
In just over 3 weeks we will host the Glancy Tournament at Dunham. For those of you who are perhaps unfamiliar with this event, it is an annual event put on by the Association of Jewish Clubs and Society's. Each club has the opportunity to showcase their club and facilities every 10 years or so by hosting the event. I'm sure as proud members of Dunham you will wish our team of 8 all the very best. Big events like this take a lot of work from a lot of people and as such, we always require as many members as possible to help out in various ways on the Saturday and Sunday (1st & 2nd July). If you are available to volunteer then contact either myself, Jo Glass or Gail de Meza, we would be most grateful.
The Glancy dinner on the Saturday night at the A J Bell stadium is also open to all members and any guests, when you will have a chance to see the Dunham team perform their song in the legendary song contest, that's not to be missed!
As I mentioned last week, we are now approaching the extremely busy time of the year at the club. Please check the members' diary on our website and/or the fixtures screen outside the shoe room to see when play is restricted. On behalf of the staff I'd like it thank you in advance for your help in the very busy time for the club.
Speaking of the staff, congratulations to Mike on becoming the new Club Manager. Maybe not quite as high profile as Pep and Jose's appointments last year, but just as important to our club, well done Mike.

Men's Major Results
The Men's Major on Sunday was a really well contested affair. Once again, the traditionally more difficult Medal format produced not only a tightly bunched leaderboard, but generally better scoring. However, there was a clear winner as Vic Winch, produced his Thursday night form to return a terrific nett 67 to win by 3 shots.
There was a 3 way tie for the runners up spot with all three starting to see the rewards for the work they have put in on their games. Chris Melton took the runners up spot from Lawrence Bass and then Ian Cartwright who had the consolation of taking the silver division prize.
Epic and Exclusive!
I am very excited to announce that I am one of only 10 accounts in the North West to be able to fit the new Callaway Epic & Epic Pro irons and Epic hybrids. These are an incredible iron with huge gains in distance to be had, but be warned they are not cheap.
Callaway told me that their R&D department were given the task of producing 'the best iron they could with no budget constraints' and this is the result. Come and see for yourself, they really are Epic.
Until next week have a great time on the course, stay safe and enjoy your golf.
